Before you can send campaigns or start automations in Send Onyx, you must create at least one list and add subscribers to it.
Lists are the foundation of your account. They control who receives emails, how engagement is tracked, and how audiences are segmented.
What Is a List in Send Onyx?
A list is a container for subscribers that share a common source, purpose, or audience type.
You can use lists to:
- Separate traffic sources
- Run different offers or niches
- Control sending volume
- Track engagement independently
Every campaign or automation in Send Onyx is sent to one or more lists.
Step 1: Creating a New List
How to create a list
- Go to Audience → Lists
- Click Create New List
- Enter the required information:
- List Name – Internal name (only visible to you)
- From Name – Sender name recipients will see
- From Email – Verified sender email
- Company / Address Info – Required for compliance
- Save the list
Once created, the list is immediately available for imports, campaigns, and automations.
✅ Creating at least one list completes the final onboarding checklist step.
Step 2: Preparing Your Subscriber File
Send Onyx supports standard CSV and TXT files.
Minimum required field
- Email address
Recommended fields
- First name
- Last name
- Custom fields (tags, source, country, etc.)
Important rules:
- One subscriber per row
- No duplicate email addresses
- UTF-8 encoding recommended
Clean files improve deliverability and reduce bounces.
Step 3: Importing Subscribers
How to import
- Go to Audience → Import
- Upload your CSV or TXT file
- Select the target list
- Map file columns to subscriber fields
- Confirm import settings
- Start the import
Send Onyx processes imports in the background. Large lists may take a few minutes.
Import Options Explained
During import, you can configure:
- Overwrite existing subscribers – Updates data if email already exists
- Skip duplicates – Prevents re-adding the same address
- Assign tags – Automatically tag subscribers
- Enable double opt-in (optional) – Sends confirmation email
Choose settings based on list quality and source.
Step 4: Import Status & Validation
After import, Send Onyx automatically:
- Validates email format
- Flags invalid or blocked addresses
- Removes duplicates
- Applies blacklist rules
You can view:
- Total imported
- Skipped emails
- Failed entries
This protects your sender reputation before your first send.
Best Practices for New Lists
To avoid deliverability issues:
- Start with clean, permission-based lists
- Avoid cold imports without warming
- Send smaller volumes first
- Monitor opens, clicks, and bounces
- Do not mix unrelated audiences in one list
Well-structured lists lead to higher inbox placement and better performance.
What Happens After Import?
Once subscribers are added, you can:
- Send email campaigns
- Build automation sequences
- Segment subscribers using filters
- Track engagement per list
Your list is now live and ready for sending.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Importing scraped or purchased lists
- Sending immediately without warming
- Mixing multiple traffic sources in one list
- Ignoring unsubscribe and complaint rates
Send Onyx enforces strict list hygiene to protect all senders on the platform.
