Domain Warm Up And Why It’s Important

When you start using a new domain or a new sending server (SMTP) with Send Onyx, you have zero “reputation” with inbox providers like Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo. To them, you are a stranger.

Domain Warm Up is the process of gradually increasing your email volume to prove that you are a legitimate sender with high-quality content.

Why Do You Need to Warm Up?

Inbox providers use complex algorithms to decide where your email lands. If a brand-new domain suddenly sends 10,000 emails, it triggers a “Spam Alert.” By starting small, you show the providers that:

  1. People actually open your emails.
  2. People don’t report you as spam.
  3. You have a consistent sending pattern.
💡
Pro Tip: During the first 14 days of your warm-up, only send to your most active subscribers (those who have clicked or opened an email in the last 30 days). High engagement during this phase is the “secret sauce” for long-term deliverability.

The “Safe” Warm-Up Schedule

While every list is different, here is a standard schedule for a new domain on Send Onyx:

  • Week 1: Send 50–100 emails per day.
  • Week 2: Send 200–500 emails per day.
  • Week 3: Send 1,000–2,000 emails per day.
  • Week 4: Start scaling toward your full list size.

What Happens If You Skip the Warm-Up?

If you ignore the warm-up and blast your entire list immediately, you risk Permanent Domain Throttling. This means Gmail might decide to send all your future emails to spam, regardless of how much you clean your list later.

⚠️
New Domain Warning: If your domain is less than 30 days old (from the date of purchase), you must be even more cautious. New domains are under high scrutiny by spam filters. Keep your volume under 50 emails/day for the first week.

How to Track Progress

Check your Send Onyx Dashboard daily. If your Open Rates are above 20%, you are doing great. If they drop below 10%, stop increasing your volume and stay at the current level for a few more days until the engagement improves.
